To be an A's fan is no easy task. When you live and die with a team you have your ups and downs, and really lets face it unless your team goes all the way do you ever truly feel satisfied? Well in that case I havn't felt truly satisfied since 1989 when I was a ripe seven years of age the last time my team won it all.
The last three years in particular have been truly excruciating. Fans have witness our green and gold gentleman stumble through three straight seasons of similar uninspiring results. In case you've tuned out since they final made it to the ALCS back in 'aught six, and really who could blame you, that's three straight seasons that have resulted in finishes of 76-86, 75-86, and 75-87. We're nothing if not consistent.
So whose to blame? Billy Beane, the wunderkind General Manager and once and future star character in a major motion picture? or maybe Bob Geren, "best friend" of said General Manager
and leader of our hapless troops? Or if you will, how about the Players? These are after all, the men suiting up as professionals day in and day out with one common goal. I just hope that goal isn't collecting a generous salary (ahem, Matt Holliday).
Bottom line is things need to change, I'm as optimistic and hopeful just as I was last year, and the year before that and so on and so forth from the very moment that I decided that the little team in Oakland was so much more fun then the Giants of San Francisco.
